Transitioning the organisation to profitability
The program of work required an organisational turnaround. After an initial assessment phase, a program was established with a number of initiatives that would allow the hospital to both improve efficiencies and generate extra revenue streams.
At the heart of the program was establishing a robust management system to manage the day-to-day operations with clear key performance indicators across a range of disciplines and specialties. This included operational indicators and also the supply chain area (a key area of under-performance) including materials management: reduced cost per item, inventory holding and stockouts.
The program also helped establish several new departments including a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, emergency department, paediatrics department, and a PCR laboratory that now serves over 2,000 patients daily and helped significantly improve the revenue streams and profitability of the hospital.
